Dawn becomes Bank of America Businessperson of the year
Devoted charity and community business woman says she does it all because she loves Cheshire.
Global Businesswoman Dawn Gibbins is celebrating after being crowned the 2011 Bank of America Business Person of the Year. The entrepreneur from Congleton says she was overwhelmed and in shock by the honour, but was immensely proud of everything she has achieved and the impact it’s had on the community around her.
Dawn, the daughter of great British inventor Peter Gibbins, achieved worldwide business success with her father when they set up the flooring institution Flowcrete in South Cheshire in the early 1980’s. It grew from being a small start-up family business to a global giant, flooring the world of commercial businesses from NASA to the 02 Stadium. Flowcrete was sold to an American company in 2008 for what is understood to be in excess of £30million. Guests and VIP’s at the awards evening at the Celebrate Cheshire event last week heard inspiring anecdotes from Dawn about her glittering career and her unfailing enthusiasm and passion for helping others to achieve more in life.
Speaking at the event, she announced: “My life is just so magical. I have been working with communities rather than running a business since selling Flowcrete and I have great things planned for next year. I‘m overwhelmed to be stood here accepting this award with so many people I work with and admire around me. It’s my absolute pleasure to be part of everything that’s great about Cheshire and really put the county on the map. Watch out world – here comes Cheshire!”
The popular winner also talked about her continuing charity work with disadvantaged communities, which she says was her inspiration to take part in the Channel 4 TV documentary Secret Millionaire. She is a keen Philanthropreneur who combines her business skills with the ability to put something back into society and has always been a keen and willing volunteer. She’s an integral part of the Congleton community and has been instrumental in putting the Cheshire town on the map with its big heart and enterprising businesses and community spirit.
As a continuation to help others and make work an enjoyable experience, Dawn now plans to feng-shui her way through the UK with her new business, which is set to revolutionise companies across the country and make a better working environment for all. It’s a subject that she’s extremely passionate about, having studied the far-eastern philosophy with some of the world’s greatest practitioners. She uses it in all areas of her businesses and life and is an ambassador for the UK Feng Shui Society. |
