Katie sings for Dawn and her husband Mark

"It was a most wonderful sensation - surprising my husband Mark with a love song performed just for him by the beautiful Katie Melua. And such a lovely way to help Children in Need."

PRESS RELEASE

Katie’s Charity Dawn Chorus

Barefoot entrepreneur Dawn Gibbins MBE donated £20,000 to Children In Need to have a love song written for her by acclaimed singer Katie Melua.

Dawn bid for the song on Terry Wogan’s Radio 2 show – in the ‘Prizes Money Can’t Buy’ auction.

After securing the prize, Dawn spent an hour on the phone to Katie to give her some ideas for the song’s lyrics, which Dawn has dedicated to her husband, Mark Greaves.

Dawn then heard the song – entitled ‘I’d Be Nowhere Without You,’ for the first time, along with millions of listeners, live on Terry Wogan’s breakfast show.

The track will now be released as an extra song on Katie’s next single, due out around Christmas.

Katie said: “I’ve never really written to such a specific idea before so I didn’t know if it would work.

“The great thing was that Dawn had some fascinating things to tell me about her husband, including his love of literature, medieval English and poetry.”

Dawn, who was clearly thrilled with the song following the preview on Wogan, said “I’m delighted this very special prize will support such a good cause.”

Earlier this year, Dawn sold her global business Flowcrete, which she built up from a start-up in the 1980s to a major international company, with offices in 30 countries.

Now Dawn has launched a new business venture, Barefoot Living, which combines her love of flooring with her passion for health, wellbeing and Feng Shui.

Based in Bosley, on the outskirts of Congleton in Cheshire, Barefoot Living has just launched its latest therapeutic floor to homes within the county – Hot Rocks, which offers a foot massaging stone carpet finish, with underfloor heating built in.
